No one likes to clean the dishwasher filter. It’s a dirty, smelly job that no one wants to tackle, but it’s essential for keeping your dishwasher running smoothly. A clogged filter can cause problems with your dishes and leave them covered in soap scum and food particles. But don’t worry, cleaning your dishwasher filter doesn’t have to be an intimidating task! Let’s break down.
Identify the Filter Location
The first step is to find out where the filter is located in your dishwasher. This could vary depending on the model of your dishwasher. It is normally underneath the lower spray arm or behind a panel at the bottom of the machine. If you’re having trouble finding it, check your user manual for instructions. Remove and Clean the Filter Once you’ve located the filter, remove it and set aside any pieces that come off with it (e.g., gaskets). Then take a damp cloth or sponge and use some mild detergent or baking soda to wipe away all of the built-up gunk from both sides of each piece of the filter assembly. Make sure you pay extra attention to areas around gaskets and grooves because these are often prone to getting stuck with food particles or grease. Once everything is wiped down and cleaned up nicely, rinse off each piece with hot water until they’re all free from residue.
Reassemble
Now that everything is nice and clean, carefully reassemble all of the pieces back together in their original order—including any gaskets or other components that came apart when you removed them earlier—and place them back into their designated spots in your dishwasher. Double-check that everything is securely in place before closing up any panels or doors on the machine itself so you don’t accidentally damage anything when you turn it on later.
With just a few simple steps—your dishwasher filter will be squeaky clean in no time! Cleaning your dishwasher filter might seem intimidating at first, but once you know what to do—it’s actually easy! You’ll thank yourself later when you start noticing better results with less soap scum on those dishes! Plus, who knows? Maybe cleaning out that old gunk will even give you new found respect for all things related to appliances, you never know!
